It is a Thanksgiving tradition that dates back to 1989. The National Thanksgiving Turkey Pardon took place on the White House’s south lawn.
During the ceremony, President Joe Biden stated, “John’s been a turkey grower for 35 years. He raised over four million turkeys. And with the help of his nine-year-old son Grant, they’ve raised two special guests we’re honoring today, Peach and Blossom.”
The President says that the two turkeys are named after his home state of Delaware’s state flower. Peach and Blossom traveled two days from the Zimmerman’s turkey farm in Minnesota all the way to the White House.
They will join previously pardoned turkeys at Farm America, an agricultural center in Minnesota.
