President Biden wants $21 billion from Congress for farmers affected by hurricanes

The White House is asking Congress for more than $100 billion in aid with a quarter of that going to farmers.

It is the price tag they are putting on natural disasters over the last two years. This includes disasters like Hurricane Milton and Helene. $21 billion of that total would go to crop and livestock losses, and it would be distributed via the Emergency Relief Program. The last time ERP was used for farmers was 2022 when Congress only funded a third of USDA’s estimate for crop losses.

Some farm groups were angered when the payments were pro-rated to give small farmers a larger share of the money.
