Renewable diesel is better for trucking emissions than electric, a study says

California and other states are pushing for electric vehicles, but renewable diesel might be a better option for long-haul trucks.

The American Trucking Research Institute finds that renewable diesel, made from materials like soybean oil, is a more effective and cost-efficient way to reduce emissions in long-haul trucking than electric trucks. Battery electric trucks produce more emissions, have shorter ranges, and cost more to operate.

Renewable diesel works in existing trucks without modifications and could become more accessible with a record soybean crop forecast by the USDA.
