Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack has now visited North Carolina to see the aftermath of Hurricane Helene firsthand.
While in Asheville, the Secretary met with local and state officials, volunteers, and farmers highlighting resources from USDA to help the recovery process. During his visit, he was also debriefed by USDA and Forest Service staff who have been working with FEMA, clearing more than 150 miles of roads so far.
He says that USDA is committed to recovery for as long as it takes, to help North Carolina farmers get back on their feet.
As eastern Tennessee rebuilds, the state announced approval of FEMA’s direct temporary housing assistance
for survivors.
The program helps homeowners or renters whose homes received major structural damage or were destroyed.
Six counties have now been granted access to the assistance.
