Secretary Vilsack: Thousands of federal employees are helping Hurricane victims

Farmers and ranchers in the path of two major hurricanes this year are still working to rebuild.

Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack says USDA is there and will not leave until the job is done.

“USDA has been working hard to accelerate recovery efforts from both hurricanes and has been closely coordinating with FEMA to get response and recovery or resources out to those who need it the most as quickly as possible. Now this work includes more than 8,000 federal employees who are actively engaged on site to lead a full federal response. USDA alone has hundreds of responders engaged in immediate response and recovery efforts in the state and across the region.”

Insurance money from USDA is already on the way to farmers and ranchers impacted by Hurricane Helene. Under the plan, Georgia will get $208 million, Florida will get $13 million, Alabama, both Carolinas, and Virginia will each get $5 million. Approved insurance providers now have 30 days to get those funds to producers.
