Many lawmakers are calling the Senate Farm Bill text “too late.”
Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley says there could be several reasons why Ag Chair Debbie Stabenow released it at the last minute.
“I think one is to show that she is willing to show her hand, so she can’t be condemned without having at least her ideas put into text. And the second thing may be, laying down a gauntlet for Democrats to follow in the next new Congress.”
Senator Stabenow stands behind her bill, and she says it is bipartisan, and is similar to her earlier framework. Senator Grassley calls the bill and its release “disappointing” and “unrealistic.”
