Sen. Chuck Grassley shares frustrations over Biden Administration’s GREET Model

Farm groups and lawmakers, including U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley, continue to speak out about the Biden Administration’s modified GREET Model.

The Republican senator from Iowa and Ag Committee chair, who farms when he’s not developing ag policy in Washington, recently shared his difficulties with keeping grains separate in his local grain elevator in New Hartford, Iowa:

“Every farmer comes in here from every other farm in a large area and co-mingles corn. So, do bureaucrats in Washington understand the difficulty of separating corn grown for aviation fuel as opposed to just other corn that’s grown? It all makes ethanol, and the ethanol will help the next stage for aviation fuel. We’ve got to use common sense when these rules are put out. I’m convinced the bureaucrats in Washington didn’t consider all the intricate marketing of grain from these different farms – you could say, from 86,000 family farms in the state of Iowa.”
Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA)

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture (USDA) Tom Vilsack, says the new guidelines send a clear signal that farmers will be a part of the sustainable aviation fuel market for decades to come.
