Some crops are already beating the five-year average for harvest

Harvest season is here, and some of the nation’s top crops are already beating the five-year average.

Corn harvest is 14 percent complete, and this week’s USDA Crop Progress Report shows 65 percent of that crop still in the fields is in the top category. 13 percent of soybeans are in the bin, which is five points ahead of the five-year average.

Spring wheat harvest is nearly wrapped up, with 96 percent of that crop in the bin. On the winter wheat side, 25 percent of that crop is now in the ground, up 11 points from last week.
