Some lawmakers are backing President-elect Trump’s plan for increased tariffs on China, but they are also looking to take it one step further.
“Our plan is to revoke the Permanent Normal Trade Relationship status of China. Since China entered this agreement with the United States and the world, they’ve cheated on every aspect. They’ve stolen intellectual property. They’ve committed all sorts of violations—dumping, overcapacity. We’re also recommending tariffs, especially on some of the sensitive technologies and sectors. And we need to make this trading relationship fair,” said CCP Select Committee Chair and Michigan Republican John Moolenhaar.
President-elect Trump is proposing an extra 10 percent tariff on Chinese goods. He says it is in retaliation for drug trafficking into the United States, which is on top of his vow to put a 60 percent tariff on all Chinese goods.
