Some traceability changes for certain cottage cheeses may soon be in the works

Some changes could be coming to how the FDA handles traceability around cottage cheese.

It centers around a rule under the Food Safety Modernization Act. It requires added record keeping of some foods like cottage cheese to help remove potentially contaminated products from the market if needed.

The exemption would apply to cottage cheese regulated under the Grade A Pasteurization Milk Ordinance. The FDA will be taking public comment from now until mid-September.
