Vietnam is likely to experience a half-million-ton pork shortage by the end of January.
Bloomberg reports pork supplies are already becoming scarce after African Swine Fever wiped out 5 million pigs in the country. Pork imports jumped 5 to 7 fold in the first half of the year and are expected to continue to increase. However, analysts say it’s unclear if the U.S. can capture much of the growth as Vietnamese consumers primarily consume fresh, not frozen, pork.
