The Smithfield pork processing plant in South Dakota closes indefinitely due to COVID-19. This comes as the plant reports hundreds of cases of COVID-19.
According to the CEO of Smithfield Foods, Kenneth Sullivan, " These facility closures will also have severe, perhaps disastrous, repercussions for many in the supply chain.”
A JBS beef plant in Colorado is closed as they wait for tests results; two workers at this plant reportedly died from the coronavirus.
Brook Miller, The United States Cattle Association President, had this to say in regard to meat plant closures: “It is critical that U.S. meat processing plants remain open and that the workers showing up everyday on the line know their importance in securing our nations food supply.”
