Midwest producers continue recovery efforts from the derecho storm earlier this moth. Damages are currently estimated at $3.7 billion dollars in crop losses and millions of bushels of lost grain storage for Iowa farmers.
Mike Naig, the Iowa Secretary of Agriculture, speaks with RFD-TV’s own John Jenkinson on updates surrounding the damage to agriculture, what was impacted the most, and recovery efforts. “On the commercial side of things we estimate a nearly 60 million bushels worth of storage has been destroyed or severely damaged, and you can assume about the equivalent of that on farms, as well. Well over 100 million bushels damaged and that will certainly create challenges and constraints as we get into fall,” the Secretary notes.
