Hurricane Zeta Slammed into New Orleans as a Category 2 storm last night. With 110 mph winds and 10-foot storm surges, it is the strongest hurricane to hit the state this late in the season.
Louisiana Farm Bureau’s Avery Davidson speaks with RFD-TV’s own Tammi Arender on the agricultural impact of Zeta and the recovery efforts, as many areas are still recovering from the last two hurricanes.
According to Davidson, “Where that storm went in, right there over by Grand Isle, it hit what’s primarily going to be a lot of cane country. Sugarcane is grown there in Lafourche and Terrebonne Parish... the cane crop is looking pretty good. We’re in the middle of harvest, right now. So, it’s a very critical time for our cane growers, and if the cane gets blown over, lodged, they can still harvest it and get it up, pulled up out the grown... fortunately, that doesn’t look like it’s been damaged too well.”
His biggest concerns are the areas where citrus is grown.
