In his final hours as President, Donald Trump issued dozens of pardons.
One of them was for a family of beef producers. The Jorgensen’s from South Dakota, sold misbranded beef in the 1980s under the “Dakota lean” brand.
Demand outpaced supply and they mixed their product with inferior commercial beef trimmings. They were convicted in 1996, but have since served their community on the board of commissioners, promoted educational opportunities, and they have been involved with the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association.
South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem and Senator Mike Rounds support the pardons.
The President also pardoned David Lamar-Clanton who was convicted of making false statements and other charges. Supporters say that his contributions to rural healthcare issues and his involvement in 4-H show his dedication to his community.
