African swine fever continues to spread despite a slowdown in China.
The World Organization for Animal Health and global media outlets say that the infection rate among hogs in Germany, Romania, Russia, India, the Philippines, and South Africa continues to rise.
By contrast, China reported a rebound in pork output last year.
Pork supplies in 2019 were off 21 percent from the previous year, but in 2020, figures were just 3 percent lower with the herd number more than 406 million head at the end of December. USDA forecasts China’s meat imports will increase 1 percent this year.
