UNL’s Santosh Pitla: ‘In order to become more efficient, how we think about ag must change’

Agriculture continues to become more mechanized. Given the labor shortages facing many aspects of the industry, robotics are set to play an important role in how our food is produced.

University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Santosh Pitla speaks with RFD-TV’s own Janet Adkison on ag robotics and what the future holds for this technology.

According to Pitla, “There will be an increase for food, fiber, and a lot of other agriculture products. So, it is very important for us to be very efficient when we are in the field and manage our fertilizer, chemicals, and seeds... Precision ag technologies have come a long way, but in the future, we might get to a point where we need to treat individual plants, and also... talking in terms of per acre management, we’ll be talking about per square foot management using agricultural robotics.”
