Senate lawmakers consider Katherine Tai’s nomination for U.S. Trade Representative.
During her opening remarks, she said that her first priority would be helping American communities recover from the pandemic by building strong supply chains and working to strengthen existing trade deals.
She also shared her long-term goals: “In the longer term, we must pursue trade policies that advance the interests of all Americans-- policies that recognize that people are workers and wage earners, not just consumers; policies that promote broad, equitable growth here at home; policies that support American innovation and enhance our competitive edge. That’s why I will make it a priority to implement and enforce the renewed terms of our trade relationship with Canada and Mexico.”
She also committed to working with international agencies to address issues like climate change, the pandemic, and the global economic downturn.
