For two years now, Brigham Young University, Utah State University, the Fredette Family Foundation, Smithfield Foods, and the Utah Pork Association have had a friendly little “wager”. A wager that helps many in the community.
This partnership is a joint-pledge where for every point scored during the BYU and USU football season Smithfield, UPA, and Fredette Family Foundation would donate to the local food bank. At the end of the 2020-2021 season, the organizations donated nearly 40,000-pounds of protein to the Utah Food Bank.
“Food, football, and good causes bring people together. This program combines all three in a way that supports our communities. Thanks to our partners for sharing our commitment to alleviating hunger, and congratulations to the Cougars and the Aggies for preserving through a uniquely challenging season,” Jonathan Toms with Smithfield Foods stated, according to AgDaily.
The partnership is also part of Smithfield’s “Helping Hungry Homes” initiative, which also partners with Feeding America.
