National Month of Action: Biden’s plan for 70%

President Joe Biden announces a “National Month of Action” to get more people vaccinated by the 4th of July.

The National Month of Action plans to mobilize national organizations, community groups, businesses, and even celebrities to encourage more vaccines.

“We are really excited about this Month of Action, we still have a lot of people who need to get vaccinated in this country, and we are going to do everything we can to make it easier for people to get vaccinated and to continue to build vaccine confidence, and that’s why you will see activities at all different levels in the next month,” White House Vaccine Coordinator, Dr. Bechara Choucair states.

Dr. Choucair says that the initiative includes offers for free child care during vaccinations, extended pharmacy hours, and more outreach for rural communities.

“We’ve been working with community health centers that are in rural communities to make sure they have access to the vaccines. We’ve also been encouraging them and they’ve been doing a lot of mobile, pop-up clinics in rural communities,” he explains. “Just recently, we started working in rural health clinics... and we are engaging with them to make sure they can make the vaccine available in clinics across the country.

Companies are also getting involved from Major League Baseball to popular beer brands.

According to Dr. Choucair, “CVS, to Kroger, to United Airlines, to businesses across the country are offering incentives and actually if you go to vaccines.gov/incentices, you can get a list of all what’s available out there so we would encourage you to do that.”

The goal is to reach 70 percent vaccination by the 4th of July.

“It’s going to be really hard to get to 70 percent, but we believe, scientists believe that when we get to the 70 percent we are going to see steeper declines in number of new cases, steeper declines in number of new hospitalizations, steeper declines number of deaths, as we will have taken a serious step towards normalcy as we get closer to 70 percent and that’s why the President set this target for us a few weeks ago,” he adds.

According to the CDC, 63 percent of American adults have already received their first dose. Visit Vaccines.gov or text your zip code to GETVAX to find the three closest vaccine locations.
