We are continuing to monitor the wildfires in the west, specifically southwest Oregon and northern California.
Oregon’s fire marshal shared a video of the Bootleg Fire, that fire has been burning for a week. It escalated over the weekend, and firefighters had to leave the scene, because of life-threatening risk.
It exploded again in size yesterday, and will likely be the first 200,000 acre wildfire of the year in the U.S.
Congress could vote to establish a commission to study the western wildfires.
The Senate Homeland Security Committee will vote this week to study fires across federal agencies. The bill would create a 28 member panel consisting of federal, state, and local officials. They will study various policies like aerial firefighting, and how climate change contributes to fires.
