Here is something you do not see every day: wildlife officers removed a tire that was around an elk’s neck for more than two years.
The bull elk was first spotted by a Colorado wildlife officer in 2019, but the tire was not keeping him from heating or drinking. Officers feared it would get caught in trees or even another elk’s antlers.
They tranquilized the 600 pound plus animal. Then carefully cut off the antlers to remove the tire. They estimate it was filled with ten pounds of debris and say that the bull dropped 35 pounds with the removal.
