A new report from the USDA shows that small family farms produce the majority of poultry, eggs, and hay in the country.
The Economic Research Service report found that small family farms produced 59 percent of hay and nearly half of poultry and egg output in 2020.
More than a quarter of beef production happened on small family cow-calf operations.
USDA defines small family farm as an operation where a family owns the majority of the assets, with an annual gross cash income of less than $1 million dollars.
