The recent winter blast in Texas brought extreme cold and snowy conditions, but it fell short of last year’s event.
This time a year ago, the state’s electric grid failed during a winter blast. Nearly 250 people died, and millions were left in the dark without heat.
Last week’s storm carried less punch, but renewable energy sources did well and ultimately helped the state. Wind production was more than 50% higher than expected. It was projected that Texas would surpass its winter demand record with an estimate of around 75 gigawatts, but it never got close to the mark.
