The opportunity for U.S. pork market growth will come from our neighbors to the south. That is according to an economist who says that Central and South America will be the target areas.
Sales to China are waning and Mexico accounted for 22 cents of every dollar in pork exports last year.
Eight other Latin American nations are expected to become major customers because our free trade agreement lifted tariff-rate quotas on U.S. pork.
Those eight nations have a combined population to that of Mexico.
