Biofuel groups are reacting to a study recently released by the National Academy of Sciences. It claims that corn-based ethanol causes more harm to the environment than gasoline, which contradicts years of previous research by USDA.
President and CEO of the Renewable Fuels Association, Geoff Cooper spoke with RFD-TV’s own Janet Adkison on the main discrepancies, on the possible confusion created among consumers, and where the claims are coming from.

The Renewable Fuels Standard is said to be the nation’s most successful clean energy policy, but its full potential remains untapped.
That is according to Growth Energy CEO Emily Skor, who testified today at a Senate Ag hearing over the challenges and opportunities of RFS. She says that it is important ethanol has a seat at the table.
According to Skor, “For the past eight years, a lack of accountability and failure to comply with the law has slowed progress on carbon reductions, but today as Congress looks to immediately reduce the carbon intensity of our nation’s transportation fleet, it is imperative that biofuels like ethanol, the most affordable and abundant source of low-carbon, high-octane fuel on the plant are part of our transportation mix now and into the future.”
She continued and emphasized that there is no path towards net-zero emissions by 2050 without biofuels.
