Senate agriculture leadership shared their thoughts on the 2023 Farm Bill at the NASDA Winter Policy meeting this week.
Committee Chair, Debbie Stabenow joined the group with a video message. She said her priorities include rural broadband, competitive trade, infrastructure and local food systems.
“The Farm Bill as you know, is a huge opportunity but it requires big broad coalition’s you’re all aware of the regional cooperation that can help pass a farm bill. But coalition’s expand the important issues we’ll tackle are just as important for rural development to nutrition to risk management, and more.”
Ranking Member John Boozman also spoke to the group. He said Washington should listen to farmers and ranchers as they make changes to the Farm Bill conservation title.
“Our farmers, ranchers and foresters are the greatest stewards of the land and have been working for generations to preserve natural resources and protect the environment through on farm practices. Agriculture has an important place at the table in this conversation. So I can’t support billions of dollars being spent on climate efforts without the necessary input from those directly impacted our farmers, ranchers and foresters.”
Senator Boozman said writing a good Farm Bill isn’t a matter of Democrats versus Republicans, but rather a balancing act of regional priorities, and being sure all commodities are well represented.
