This year’s ag exports are off to the races, following last year’s record-setting sales.
USDA says that the export value so far this year has also set records, up 3 percent to nearly $16 billion dollars. A USDA economist breaks down the major bulk items.
According to Bart Kenner, “Wheat exports were $2.1 billion dollars, up 6 percent from last year. Corn exports were $5.2 billion dollars, up 40 percent. Soybean exports were $18.7 billion, up 2 percent.”
Cotton sales are showing the only decrease at 16 percent.
Sec. Vilsack says that the department expects to beat last year’s record sales, which is why the trade missions he announced are so important. He said that filling the position for Undersecretary of Trade has been a frustrating process, but they are making progress.
