The national average for a gallon of gas is finally taking a breath

For the first time in 12 weeks, the cost to fill the tank is coming down.

Right now the average price for a gallon of gas is $4.23, diesel is $5.04. Prices are still significantly higher than a month ago, by 71 cents, and $1.37 higher than a year ago.

While the decline is still subject to the global markets, Gasbuddy.com predicts additional down drafts at the pump this week.

Not everyone is seeing relief, though.

Prices on the west coast continue to rise with some cities now paying more than $7 dollars a gallon.
