The drought still has a stronghold for South Dakota farmers and ranchers.
The latest drought monitor shows two-thirds of the state in moderate to severe drought, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association has April precipitation at below average.
A South Dakota State Extension agent says now is the time to prepare and says conditions will likely get worse. South Dakota has been dealing with drought in the Central and Western parts of the state for nearly two years.
