Unfilled grain car orders increased by half last year

A new Farm Bureau report shows that unfilled grain car orders increased by half last year.

A Farm Bureau economist says that in 2021, 50 percent of unfilled orders were eleven or more days overdue, and labor shortages with railroads liquidating assets contributed to that.

Most of those orders came from the Upper Plains, including North Dakota, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Kansas.

The Surface Transportation Board will hold hearings next week on the delays that have plagued ag transporters for years.
