Ethanol’s environmental footprint is improving. That is according to a new analysis by the Renewable Fuels Association.
It shows that corn ethanol can now provide nearly three times the energy used to produce it. The study found the average energy balance ratio for corn ethanol last year was 2.8-3. In 2016, it was around the 2 mark.
The ratio measures how much energy a source provides compared to the amount needed to produce and distribute it.
