Lawmakers are voicing their concerns for farmers over the recently proposed rule from the Securities and Exchange Commission. The commission wants to require companies to disclose emissions throughout the supply chain.
The Farm Bureau says that this will not directly regulate farmers or ranchers, but it could create burdensome paperwork and liabilities to comply with what the companies will need to meet the obligations.
“We appreciate Congress taking interest in this issue. Because of these concerns, Congressman Rose of Tennessee, who serves on the Financial Services Committee, led a letter of over 100 members of Congress raising concerns with the SEC,” states.
The public comment period for the issue ends June 17th and the Farm Bureau is encouraging farmers to voice their concerns too.
