In response to the triple-digit temperatures, Oregon has put new guidelines in place to keep farmworkers safe. This comes after a worker death last year due to heat exhaustion.
The state’s OSHA is requiring farm employees to go through training on several heat safety topics and for farm owners to provide access to water, shade, and breaks.
However, the Oregon Farm Bureau says that most farmers are already doing those things, and having them document it would be time-consuming and costly.
