Consumers: Farmers are highly trustworthy

U.S. consumers continue to have high trust in farmers, according to the most recent Gardner Food and Ag Policy survey.

The study tracks changes in public perception of agriculture issues. Consumer trust remained high compared to the last quarter, measured in May of this year. Given the sharp rise in inflation, it is no surprise to see ‘affordability’ ranking lowest during both survey periods. More than 75 percent of those surveyed believe the food is tasty, accessible, and safe.

When it comes to who consumers trust the most within the food system? Farmers! They have a strong, consistent lead, followed up by grocery stores, restaurants, and food manufacturers. The government came in last for who consumers trust in the food system.
