Connecting Schools to Local Farmers: The new USDA funding to improve child nutrition

The USDA is working to expand local foods in school meals.

The department’s Agricultural Marketing Service announced more than $3 million for a cooperative agreement with Minnesota. The funding will go toward increasing the state’s purchase of nutritious, local foods for school meal programs. The goal is to improve child nutrition and build new relationships between schools and farmers.

Minnesota is the first state to enter this agreement.
