Talks for the 2023 Farm Bill are in full swing. A recurring theme we keep hearing-- “do not cut crop insurance.”
The co-founder of Agriliance Insurance Group, a company that works with about 100 South Carolina family farms, weighs in.
According to JC Carroll, “Crop insurance is our best safety net and provides us, nationally, really the safety nationally for food security, for making sure that we can continue to be independent.”
South Carolina farmer, Neal Baxley also shares his thoughts, saying that producers are doing their best to take care of the land.
“We’re stewards of the land, and we as farmers, we take care of the land. We farm it and do best practices to try to make sure that we’re good stewards and we can pass this land on for generations and generations,” Baxley explains.
He says that he relies on crop insurance to manage his risks, saying that if he had not purchased it, it does not know if he would still be farming.
