Strawberries are one of the most popular fruits in the United States and hold a 60 percent share of the berry category volume, according to aginfo.net.
Jeff Cardubale with the California Strawberry Commission says it has been a good year for the crop, and it is a reason why consumers come to the grocery store.
“I think the main thing is just to re-emphasize or re-highlight that strawberries are the key force when it comes to, you know, to fruit and market, strawberries are king. And you know, both the retail industry really relies on strawberries to drive people into the store, to keep people in the store, and to create new customers and to bring repeat customers. So this report really emphasizes what I think a lot of people already know, is that strawberries are really essential to retail.”
The strawberry industry saw 11 percent growth this year, beyond other berry varieties.
