Serving as the largest segment of Nebraskan agriculture, the cattle industry is critical to the economic well-being of the state.
To gain a better understanding of issues facing the beef sector, the Nebraska Farm Bureau created the “Cattle Markets Task Force.”
Steve Nelson, the bureau president, speaks with RFD-TV’s own Tammi Arender on what the task force focuses on and their policy recommendations.
According to Nelson, “We’re ideally suited in the sand hills of Nebraska to grow calves, and than we’re ideally suited in other parts of the state with the water to grow feed... Not only are we a great place to raise calves, but we’re a great place to finish cattle as well. We’re blessed with the number of processing facilities in the state; so basically makes cattle feeding and cattle production a great fit here in Nebraska. So, obviously things that we can do to improve the market situation for producers is something that is extremely important.”
