Taiwan is prioritizing food security in light of growing tension with China

Taiwan is taking action to ensure its food security in case of a potential Chinese blockade.

Tension has been building between Taiwan and China recently, with China claiming Taiwan as its own territory. Taiwan rejects those claims, leading to China displaying its potential power over the island. As a result, Taiwan has risen rice stockpiles to support itself for at least seven months.

In the case of a blockade, Taiwan’s Ag Ministry says more farmland would be used to grow rice, with plans to prioritize growing sweet potatoes, soybeans, and fresh vegetables.
