Tar spot is also shaping up to be a concern again this year.
The first reported case of the year has appeared in Kansas. A Crop Specialist at Kansas State University says that it has shown up a month earlier than expected.
According to Rodrigo Onofre, “We’re finding that growth stage from V3, which is really early, to V10 right now as you guys can see on this more taller corn. I would say it’s time to start intensifying our scouting and preparing for some management decisions as we go into the season.”
Since its discovery, tar spot has been found in eighteen U.S. states.
