Tennessee farmers are still working to rebuild after Hurricane Helene

Some farmers along the path of Hurricane Helene are still working to rebuild. Ag leaders in Tennessee say dairy and poultry growers suffered big losses.

“We have a situation where we’re having difficulty getting feed in and milk out, and a couple that with loss of electricity, there’s a lot of milk getting dumped, and so we’re dealing with that as well. I know of at least four chicken houses that were completely destroyed. We don’t have a complete list. We haven’t done a full assessment yet, so it’s a significant impact on the ag communities and those eight counties,” said Commissioner of Agriculture for Tennessee Charles Hatcher.

Officials estimate the ag community in the Volunteer state suffered $1 billion loss from Hurricane Helene, which includes crop, inventory, and revenue losses.
