With several key nominations out of the way, attention is once again on Congress and if they can get a Farm Bill done this year.
Senator Boozman says he cannot recall a time quite like this before.
“I’ve never been in a situation where the bankers are coming in saying, ‘if you don’t do something, we’re not going to be able to, because of our bank examiners, we’re not going to be able to provide the credit that our farmers need.”
Boozman says he has had farmers reaching out to him almost every day about the status of the Farm Bill. There were hopes a new one could be finished this year, but Boozman says that it will likely not happen. The American Bankers Association warns farm lenders are nearing a cliff without a new Farm Bill in place.
