The first human death of a patient contracted with High-Path Avian Flu has been reported and confirmed by the CDC.
The patient was older than 65 and was already in poor health, and originally contracted the virus after exposure to a combination of a non-commercial backyard flock and wild birds, according to the Louisiana Department of Health.
More than 60 human cases of HPAI have been confirmed in the U.S., but health officials stress the cases are mild, and the food supply remains safe.
