While candy corn may have the reputation of being one of trick-or-treaters’ least favorite Halloween candies... It’s a uniquely American treat with a rural background!

The American Sugar Alliance took a look at several different treats and the amount of sugar within them compared to what they cost consumers. The group found that while a bag of candy corn costs consumers around $3.49, the sugar content of the candy in it only costs the candy manufacturer about 31 cents! That is just three cents a serving.

But what about the farmer’s payoff from that serving? Less than a penny! Not a very sweet deal for our sugar farmers out there...
