Pollution, overuse and the Supreme Court’s Decision on the Sackett v. EPA are all factors contributing to this year’s most endangered rivers in the U.S.
American Rivers has listed the top ten in their latest report. The Rivers of New Mexico are considered most endangered this year. The report says the Sackett decision stripped federal clean water protections, arguably harming New Mexico the most. From the Upper Rio Grande to the Gila River, 96% of clean drinking water for plants, animals and the population are at risk.
Also included on the list were the Big Sunflower and Yazoo Rivers in Mississippi and the Duck River in Tennessee. Last year, the Colorado River took the first place prize and this year it didn’t even make the top ten due to this report’s call to action.
