The global beef market is holding strong but herd rebuilding here in the U.S. appears to be on hold. Analysts warn that could impact prices next year.
U.S. cow slaughter is up for this year, with heifers making up more than 40 percent of calf and feeder cattle sales. On top of that, a report from Rabobank warns a slow economic recovery will limit consumer purchases of beef, and the latest USDA numbers continue to show prices are increasing.
The group anticipates a nearly 5 percent contraction in beef production and a 3 percent drop in beef consumption next year.
