John Marty Stuart was born in Philadelphia, Mississippi on September 30, 1958. This country and bluegrass legend would have a legacy that spans from 1968 to the present day. Over his career, he would influence not only country and bluegrass but also rockabilly and country rock. He would also win five Grammy awards.
Here are three of our favorite Marty songs.
“Hillbilly Rock”
“Hillbilly Rock” was the title track off of his fourth studio album, released in 1989. It was written by Stuart and Paul Kennerley. It reached number 8 on the Billboard charts.
“This One’s Gonna Hurt You (For a Long, Long Time)”
This duet with Travis Tritt was released in 1992. It peaked at number 7 on the U.S. charts.
“The Whiskey Ain’t Workin’”
This collab with Tritt was released one year before “This One’s Gonna Hurt You”. However, it was released on Tritt’s It’s All About To Change album. It went all the way to number 2 on the Billboard country charts
