Highly pathogenic avian influenza is spreading. Wild birds in two Virginia counties have now tested positive.
They were killed by hunters on January 8th in counties between Richmond and Norfolk. They were tested as part of routine surveillance.
Officials say that the discovery is not unexpected after discoveries were made in North and South Carolina earlier this month.
Commercial poultry growers are encouraged to increase their biosecurity measures to protect their flocks.
