Tyson is set to close a facility in Emporia, KS, affecting 809 employees

Tyson is closing a facility in Emporia, Kansas, and it is a move that has lawmakers from that area disappointed.

Tyson says they will consolidate operations there, with all Emporia activities shifting to their Holcomb plant, and it also says they are working with local and state officials to support affected workers. The company employs more than 5,000 people across other Kansas locations.

Kansas Senator Roger Marshall released a statement expressing his disappointment in the closure, saying in part, “The news of Tyson’s closing its plant in Emporia breaks my heart. This facility is one of the largest employers in the region, and its closure will leave hundreds unemployed. This is devastating news for these families and the community, especially at Christmas time.”

Senator Marshall says his office has been in contact with leaders from the city of Emporia and is committed to doing everything possible to help affected individuals find good jobs.
